Presidents!

Our new class pet, "Mrs. Kelly's Kangaroo" went on his very first trip this week with Nate.  Here are a couple pictures of Nate sharing his journal entries with the class.  "Joey", otherwise known as "Roo" had a fabulous time at Nate's house.  He even ate popcorn and went to see a movie about butterflies!

While learning about Presidents and the U.S.A., the kids made posters about themselves to encourage voters to vote for them.  Mrs. Crystal helped candidates write their first and last names on the posters.

We made a GIANT classroom flag with 13 stripes - with our handprints!  Wow.  The kids really enjoyed this activity and the completed piece is really a sight to see!
Check out these photos...

Look at these amazing "Abraham Lincoln" Lunch Bunchers!

Did you know that George Washington is on a quarter and Abraham Lincoln is on a penny?  We made coin rubbings of these two Presidents and it was just like magic!

Check out how big and smart our class is!  We all sat at one giant table for this large group activity and these little learners did so well!  I am so proud of them for paying attention to directions and listening.  Wow!

This week we learned about the letter "Y".
We are almost to the end of the alphabet!  Cool!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Happy Valentine's Day!
Our class was full of love this week as we celebrated.

We are so thankful for our parents.  These special Moms helped us learn about graphs.  We sorted by color, counted, learned the difference between "most" and "least" and discussed favorites.

We painted our hands to make very special valentines.
We learned about "right" and "left" with our hands.

Can you graph how many orange hearts you have?

Then we came together as a group and made one
large classroom graph showing our favorites.

Hello friends!  Meet Mrs. Kelly's Kangaroo, our new classroom pet and friend!

Winter Wonderland!

This month has been full of learning and winter fun as we have studied arctic animals, snow, ice, snowmen and more "cool" things.  Here are just a few of the things we have been doing at school.

We had so much fun learning about ice and arctic animals.
We used hammers and other tools to dig frozen animals out of the ice.

In the dough center, we made arctic animal foot prints.

Teeny tiny penguins were hiding in the sensory table full of blue "ice" rice.
Campbell found 8 penguins to match with the number 8 counting block.

At Mrs. Crystal's center we painted with puffy paint and made polar bear art.

Thank you for sending in "real" groceries for our grocery store and kitchen centers.
The kids have enjoyed playing with real groceries so much.

Check out these choppers chopping up snow and ice.  Mrs. Kelly was so excited that it snowed outside during the week we were learning about snow.  She saved some real snow for us so we could feel it and play with it. Just look at the concentration on the girls' faces!

Can you sort each bear to the correct color while using your pincer grip?

Wow!  A shark!

Practicing the letter "P" on the marker board.

How many polar bears do you see?

Jayda found the pom-poms and cheerleading outfit in the dramatic play center and
showed us some of her favorite cheers!

Today we learned about the letter "W".  Mrs. Kelly loves our new letter puppets.

The reading phones are so cool!  You can hear yourself as you read when talking into the phone!

Painting with ice water.

Can you make an igloo out of ice cubes?

Teamwork.

Mrs. Jeana and Mrs. Kelly really enjoy the new Lunch Bunch group.
We are learning and having so much fun.

The "Simon Says" art project was really neat.  It was interesting to see how different each art piece turned out to be when all of the kids were given the same directions.  Some examples are "place three purple circles on your paper, next draw one green rectangle" and so on.  No two were alike.

The ice finally melted and the polar bears were able to swim!

Can you walk like a penguin?

Each day as the children arrive at school, they will find their last name at one of the table top learning centers.  We will rotate each day until each child has visited all centers.

Mrs. Kelly brought out the parachute so that we could toss pretend snowballs in the air!  We were full of giggles and energy, but it was a great lesson while we practiced colors, counting and directional movements.

Look at these smiles.  This is priceless.  THIS is why I love teaching.

.

Here are a few of our brand new table top learning centers.

We learned that water turns into ice once it gets very very cold.  During circle time, Mrs. Kelly poured water into a bucket.  We placed 8 items from our classroom into the bucket of water and then placed the bucket outside into the cold air.  On the next day, Mrs. Jaime (our teacher for the day) brought the bucket inside and all of the classroom items were frozen inside the ice!  Wow!

Here Mrs. Kelly is placing the bucket outside so the water can freeze.

I just love this picture....

At the art station, we made snowflakes using masking tape and watercolor paint.  The kids enjoyed tearing the tape and placing the tape pieces on their papers.  We learned that no two snowflakes are alike, just like people!  God made us all very special and different!

In Lunch Bunch, we made real life size snowmen using toilet paper!  We giggled a lot!

Have you ever tasted "Snowman Soup"?  Yum!
Check out all of the ingredients needed to make our special soup!

Check out the snowman Nate made out of dough!

When it snows outside, I like to........

Mrs. Kelly turned our library into an igloo reading nook!

Which snowflake is different?  We have been learning about things that are the same vs. different.

This was a really tricky sensory activity!  Can you find the snowman's carrot nose in this baggie filled with a melted snowman?  See if you can push and pull the pieces around to place the nose in the correct spot!

Preschool rocks.

Can you find the mitten that is "different"?

We love to paint at Lunch Bunch.

At Lunch Bunch, we make a fun craft.
Here we are making snowmen using lots of little crafty items from the art center.

Community Helpers day is one of Mrs. Kelly's favorites.
Here Officer Kelly is singing the color song with us.

Firefighter Dane joined in on the fun.

Community helpers are very important to us.  There are several different types of community helpers.  Here we sorted items that belong to four different types of community helpers; a construction worker, chef, police officer and doctor.

In the construction center, we used sticks and dough to build structures.

We made chef hats too!

At the doctor's office, Dr. Trey, Dr. Rayna and Dr. Campbell gave the babies a check-up.  They even wrote a prescription!

Mrs. Kelly helped us make doctor kits.

We have been trying very hard to clean up our classroom when Mrs. Kelly says it's time.  Here is a picture of us working together as friends to straighten the rug.  Mrs. Kelly was so proud of us!
