Our New School!

Welcome to our new school!  Our new school is awesome.
I dedicated this week's blog to showing off our new school and all of the learning that is taking place.
We are so blessed!

These self-portraits are adorable.  I think this is my favorite art piece this year.  I just stand and look at them and giggle.  I love this class so much!

Mrs. Kelly and Mrs. Crystal have never looked so good!
Ha! Ha!

Mrs. Kelly's Kangaroos!

Here are two of our special friends.  These little guys are Mrs. Kelly's Kangaroos.  Each girl in our class will have an opportunity to take home Josie, the female kangaroo and each boy will have a visit with Joey, the male kangaroo.  Mrs. Kelly's Kangaroos love spending time with each of the children and it's a great opportunity for the kids in our class to learn responsibility, write in the classroom journal and share their fun experiences with the class!

Minds in Motion
"The Adventure Lab"
I cannot say enough about how cool our Minds in Motion room is in our new school!  I have taken photos of each movement station so that you can get a glimpse.  I tried to get photos of each child, however the stations only last one minute before the children transition to the next station.  Between, snapping photos, helping in-between songs and moving myself, I didn't seem to capture all of the kiddos.  Sigh....  As a class, we visit the MiM room every day for 20 minutes.  Each movement station lasts one minute before they move to the next station.  There are 18 movement stations.  This program is such an incredible opportunity for the kids to engage in gross motor movement, regardless of the weather outside!  Each movement helps their little brains learn.  It really is a fantastic concept!

Look at these amazingly smart kids!  They are ready for Kinder-Prep!!!  Our new school allows us to be able to practice forming a class line, walking in the hallway quietly and even practicing taking turns at the water fountain!  How exciting!

Mrs. Kelly's Classroom

Do you remember donating empty DVD cases and winter gloves?  Check out these really fun marker boards we made with them!  Everyday during circle time, we are able to practice writing letters, numbers and shapes with the marker boards.  Inside the marker board is a glove, which we place on the hand we do not use to write.  We hold the dry erase marker in our writing hand, and after we write each letter, we erase the marker with the gloved hand.  Not only does this help teach us which hand to use when writing, but it is tons of fun and we love to practice writing!

For the remainder of the school year, we will be reviewing all letters, numbers (1-10), colors and shapes.  We will review four letters each week.  This week we reviewed A,B,C,D & E (for Easter).  Each week, the letter centers will coordinate with the letters being reviewed for extra practice.

In the play-doh center, we rolled play-doh into snakes.  Then we shaped the snakes to make letters!

The last letter of the alphabet is "Z".  Mrs. Kelly introduced the letter "Z" to us last week, where we practiced writing with finger paint!

At our new school, we have a special reading tent in the classroom library.  Here Jayda is reading her class book to Anna.

One of the many letter reviewing centers.

E is for Easter!  Happy Easter!

Don't forget to clip your child's Smart Cards to his/her bag every day!  We will be adding letters and numbers to Smart Cards each week.  Mrs. Kelly loves placing stickers on the Smart Cards while practicing with each child.  Our class is so smart!

Chicka-Chicka-Boom-Boom, will there be enough room?  Check out our new letter puzzle!  We were able to order this fun new puzzle with Scholastic bonus points.  Thank you to all of you who order books each month!  We are able to get some really fun and amazing items with our points!

Can you match the number to the correct number of dots?  This egg matching activity is tricky!

We even practiced our letters of the week in the puppet show center with our letter puppets.

Our fun magnetic letter puzzle.

Here is another new letter puzzle we were able to purchase with Scholastic points!

Can you read each color word and paint the Easter eggs using the right paint color?

We changed the Lego center a bit before moving to our new school by attaching it to this table and it has been a huge hit!

Good morning!  Find your last name to see which table top center you can learn with today!

We practice cutting with scissors every day.  Scissors are very tricky!

Did you see our new post office writing center?  We are able to write letters, address envelopes and place in mailboxes in the post office!  Thank you for donating fun paper and envelopes for us to use.

We hope you have enjoyed a glimpse of our learning experiences at Lafayette Academy Preschool.  Our new school is beautiful.  We are so thankful for our teachers, our new school, our LAP families and our little learners.  Have a safe and happy spring break!  Happy Easter!!!!!

Love, Mrs. Kelly :)
