"O" is for ocean!

Not only did we learn about the letter “o” this week, but we also learned about circles, which look just like the letter “o”!  This week we traced the letter “o” with an “o”range pencil and practiced writing our names.  Some of us were able to write our names without a traced guide!  Wow!  We LOVED the ocean themed water table with bubbles, water, scoopers and lots of ocean animals inside.  We worked very hard on a fun “o” craft with Mrs. Karen.  We made an octopus out of the letter “o”, and attached eight legs to its body.  We also dotted eight stamps on each leg to practice one-to-one correspondence and hand-eye coordination.  We practiced using our pincer grip with control in the water drop center.  In this center, we used little eye droppers and blue water to place one drop of water in each little circle spot on a fun round tray in the shape of a circle.  At circle time we learned the difference between a land animal and a water animal and created a fun picture chart as a group.  We practiced cutting with a lollipop paper.  The lollipops were also circles!  Did you know that different sea creatures have all kinds of different body shapes?  We learned about these creatures during our math activity, “How Many Legs Do I Have?”.  Mrs. Kelly shared a REAL shark with us, too!  We were able to look at the shark up close at the light table.  It was so neat!

Carefully we are using droppers to place water drops onto each circle.

Check out this new puzzle!  It is a favorite.

The water table was a hit this week.

Here is another new puzzle!  We received it just in time for ocean week!

Mr. Cool like making waves at the water table.  Ha!

"O" is for octopus.  Here we also counted eight legs!

Occasionally I will find a little friend quietly working on a puzzle or activity independently.  I love capturing those moments with their little brains are absorbing so much information.

We made our names out of blocks.
If we take these letter blocks apart, will you be able to spell your name correctly?

I just had to include this photo in the blog.  When cleaning up the room, I noticed this dinosaur.  How funny!  Someone found one of the eyeball stickers and put it to good use!

"The Numeral Song" is a daily favorite.  We use finger puppets to trace each number in the air while singing the song.

Thank you Eva for being Student of the Day!

Which of these animals lives on land and which lives in the ocean?

Circle show-and-tell!
